What's My Age Again?

Yesterday I mentioned that I would be turning a year older. My coworkers wanted to know how old I would be.

"28," I told them without a moment's hesitation.

"Wow, I'm just a little older than you," Bo said.

Barbara asked, "So you were born in '81?"

"No," I replied. "I was born in 1982."

"Then... how can you be 28?" They wanted to know.

The good news: They saved a year of my life yesterday.

What does that have to do with Sonlight or homeschooling?

Nothing really.*

But if I said anything more, I think you'd forget it as you typed out a Happy Birthday comment. And I wouldn't want to distract you from wishing me a happy birthday, now would I? <laughing>

*Except, perhaps, that if you take a break from math studies for more than 7 years you may loose your ability to properly sequence stuff.

Ohhh.....Luke! This made my day. I also was born in '82 and have found myself doing the same thing. LOL.

    Happy Birthday!

  2. Jo Princess Warrior

    Happy Birthday Luke.

My husband's parents made a fake birth extract to get him into school a year early and so for a while I always got mixed up the year he was born in - 1981 or 1982? (Naughty in-laws!)

Hope you have a great day. When is this expectant Dad expecting his arrival??

  3. Sue

    Happy Birthday, young man!

  4. Meg_L

    Have a happy.

And I'm always forgetting how old I am, my daughter LOVES to correct me when I'm wrong.

  5. mom

You know, I was reading along thinking "how cool!" because my oldest son turned 28 years old this summer and was born in....1981, um, not in 1982! LOLOL!

    Have a great birthday, Luke!

  6. Ariana

Happy Birthday! And yay for an "extra" year.

  7. The HoJo's

Hope you had a lovely day, however old you may be

  8. Queen Mommy

You are lucky to have such smart co workers!

Hope you had a great birthday.

Hay, you share a birthday with the father person in our house - Happy Mad Birthday... I truly lost track of my own birthdays when we had kids and I stumble about doing mental math on the fly and then just give the date of birth!!! Have a fabulous birthday weekend!

  10. Amy

    Happy birthday Luke!

Hi Luke! Happy Birthday! Wait til you're in your 40's. I get my age wrong all the time.

I followed you over here from Rosslyn Elliott's blog. So you're in Englewood! I grew up in Denver, and my sister is a set director (or something like that) for PBS in Denver. Small world.

I'll be checking out your other blog later when I have more time. I've got a biblical class I'm teaching, with Creationism up for Monday. I'll be looking for any fresh insights.

Funny, I was born in 1976, yet I'm only 28...let's not do the math, okay?

    Happy Birthday Luke!

Still praying often for your children to come home-may it be well before your real 28th birthday!

LOL. That is too funny! I must confess that I frequently add an extra year to my age. I was born in November of 1970 (so I'm getting old ;0 ) The subtraction is so easy that I spend most of the year thinking I've already turned that age and am always pleasantly surprised when I realize I've a year younger than I thought!

    Happy Birthday Luke!

  14. Luke

I'm glad I'm not the only one, Monica. <smile>

Jo, those in-laws <laughing>. I'm expecting the moment Kyrgyzstan lets us know we can go over and pick them up. Unfortunately, we haven't heard that news in over a year... Prayers are always welcome!

    Sue, thanks! <smile>

Meg, I'm sure my kids will get a kick out of it as well when it happens again ...I'm expecting this isn't the last time it will happen <smile>.

    Tammy, that's funny <smile>.

Ariana, I will do my best to make the most of this new-found year <laughing>.

Carolyn, I did. Thank you <smile>.

Queen Mommy, that is very, very true. I am blessed <smile>.

Mrs. C... you crack me up! <laughing>

Se7en, it's a great day to be born! But I am worried that I'm going to always forget my kids' birthdays and ages. If I can't even keep track of my own...

    Thanks, Amy! <smile>

Anne, it is a small world! I don't know if I have any fresh insights on my personal blog, but I am having fun going through the book and poking holes in it <smile>.

Wendy, your math is just as good as mine. <smile> And thanks for your prayers. They are much appreciated!

Kristen, that's a good excuse <smile>. My excuse is that my wife had her birthday last month and I started thinking about that number so when I turned a year older I just added another year on <smile>.

    Thank you all again, friends!

  15. Joe

You know, I always do that too, having to think about my age for a moment. ;-)

For the record, I was also born in '82, so thanks for the reminder that I'm turning *27* this November! ;-)

    Happy birthday!

  16. danabbey

dude! belated happy birthday! when exactly is your birthday, the 10th or 11th? mine was the 11th :)

  17. Julie.

Happy Birthday! Sorry it's late. I was born in '75 and my brother was born in '82. His birthday was the 10th and mine is the 24th. I can't remember how old we are unless I take the time to do the math. It was never this bad before! I am getting worried!!! Hope you had a wonderful day with family and friends! Best wishes!

  18. Luke

Joe, glad I'm not the only one and may help you. ...of course, now that you're thinking 27, you may make the same mistake I did and add a year <laughing>.

Thank, Dan! Mine is the 10th. But my brother-in-law and sister-in-law were both born on the 11th <smile>. Happy Birthday!

Julie, don't worry about it too much <smile>. At least, I'm trying not to worry about it too much <laughing>.

  19. Cat

LOL Glad to know I'm not the only 27 year old who regularly miscounts her age. Happy birthday a bit late!

  20. Luke

<smile> Thanks! And, yes: It's very nice to know we're not alone.

  21. Butter

Happy (very late) birthday. I once saved my mom a year. She totally thought she was a year older than she was.

  22. Luke

    Thanks, Butter!
