College tuition costs are huge which is why college scholarships are so helpful. I was awarded an academic scholarship as well as a small sports scholarship for swimming. That money ultimately paid for almost a complete year at my university. Talk about a major blessing!
Are you a parent wondering if there are college scholarship opportunities for homeschoolers? If so, the answer is: yes, absolutely!
One such scholarship program is Sonlight’s College Scholarship, which offers scholarships to multiple high school graduates. We know how quickly college costs can add up, which is why we have been committed to helping Sonlight families cover college expenses since 2000.
Each year, we are honored to award Sonlight College Scholarships —valued at $1,000-$5,000 per year, renewable up to four years. This year we’ll be awarding 13 scholarships among two different categories.
Access to these scholarships is just one more incredible benefit of using Sonlight as part of your homeschool journey. If your family has purchased and used Sonlight—specifically at least five History / Bible / Literature (HBL) programs (may include All-Subjects packages or from previous years, Core, CorePlus™, CoreUltra™, "Basic," "First-Time" or Newcomer packages), all purchased in 2000 or later.
Sonlight College Scholarship Categories
Sonlight offers two different sets of criteria. College-bound students may apply to one of the following categories:
The Green Category (Missions & Service)
- Scholarship Amounts:
- Two $2,500/year – renewable each year for 4 years ($10,000 total)
- Two $1,000/year - renewable each year for 4 years ($4,000 total)
- Scholarships in this category are based upon the following criteria in order of greatest weight to least:
- Mission-mindedness or acts of kindness
- Spiritual mindedness
- Creativity
- Leadership
- Academic performance
- Heart for learning
- Activities and interests
The Blue Category (Academic Excellence)
- Scholarship Amounts:
- One $5,000/year – renewable each year for 4 years ($20,000 total)
- Two $2,500/year – renewable each year for 4 years ($10,000 total)
- Six $1,000/year - renewable each year for 4 years ($4,000 total)
- Scholarships in this category are based upon the following criteria in order of greatest weight to least:
- Academic performance
- Spiritual mindedness
- Leadership
- Creativity
- Mission-mindedness or acts of kindness
- Heart for learning
- Activities and interests
- For at least two of these scholarships, added weight is given to applicants with a math or science background.
